Lip Flip
A deep plane lip lift is a surgical procedure that shortens the philtrum (the space between the upper lip and nose) by releasing and lifting deeper tissues, including the muscle, to make the lips look fuller and more youthful. This advanced technique creates a more significant and natural-looking result than filler. There is minimal scaring under the nose because the support comes from deeper layers, not just the skin incision.
Who is a candidate?
Patients seeking a subtle, temporary, and non-surgical way to enhance their upper lip without adding volume, particularly those with a "gummy" smile, lips that turn inward, or those looking to add definition without fillers. Ideal candidates want a more prominent pout by relaxing the muscles around the mouth, not by filling them.

This procedure is not ideal for individuals with very thin lips, as the results may be negligible.

It is also not recommended for individuals who rely on extreme, or very precise, lip movement in their daily lives. For example, musicians may find the consequential muscle relaxation impedes their ability to play.
Preparation for surgery
Prior to surgery, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil) for 3-7 days and alcohol for 24-48 hours to minimize bruising. Patients should arrive with a clean face, be hydrated, and ensure no active cold sores are present.
Procedure
The procedure is relatively fast, typically taking only 15 to 20 minutes, and is performed in the office. A fine needle is used for the injection and discomfort associated with the treatment is minimal. Generally, a small amount of topical anaesthetic will be used for your comfort. Injections are typically made at the Cupid's bow (center of the upper lip) and near the corners of the mouth (oral commissures). By relaxing these specific muscles, the muscle tension that pulls the lip inward is released, allowing the pink, mucosal part of the upper lip to flip or rotate outward.
Recovery
Normal activities can be resumed immediately following your procedure.
Potential Complications
Lip flip complications are typically temporary and mild, including slight bruising, swelling, tenderness, and a feeling of tightness in the upper lip.
