  • Crows Feet

    • The lines around the eyes associated with squinting can be effectively treated with BOTOX® injections. The result will produce a widening of the eye area and a refreshed appearance.

Preparation for surgery

It is very important that Dr. Van Laeken is aware of the state of your general health prior to surgery. Please let her know of any allergies you have, medications, herbal supplements, or vitamins you are taking as well as the reasons for taking them.

Though Botox is a quick, minimally invasive procedure with no downtime, we recommend the following practices to help achieve the best results.

Stop using anti-aging products, such as retinols, retinoids, and glycolic acid, 2–3 days before your treatment to avoid skin sensitivity.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine 1-2 days before your treatment to minimize bruising and swelling.

Procedure

The treatment is performed in the office in approximately 10-15 minutes. A fine needle is used for the injection and discomfort associated with the treatment is minimal. Generally, a small amount of topical anaesthetic will be used for your comfort. Normal activities can be resumed immediately following your procedure.

How Long Will a BOTOX® Treatment Last?

This is a non- permanent treatment option for wrinkle formations and the duration is approximately 4 months. However, after several treatments the effects of BOTOX® injections may begin to last longer.

Recovery

Leave the dressing on for 5-7 days before removing. You may shower with the dressing in place. You may notice some of the pigment and a small amount of blood through the dressing, this is normal. Do not aggressively rub the area. After the dressing is removed the skin will appear dry with some scabbing. Do not pick at these areas as it could result in pigment loss. Use a gentle moisturizer such as Lanolin cream on the area. Avoid soaking in the bathtub, a hot tub or swimming pool (chlorine may contribute to fading of the tattoo). Also, avoid tanning beds and limit your exposure to sunlight. Use sunscreen as necessary. The tattoo may appear dark at first but will lighten over the next 3 months.

This is considered the final stage of the reconstructive process. It is important to be aware that there will be a decreased nipple sensation in the reconstructed breast when compared to a natural nipple.

Potential Complications

There is a potential for slight bruising and a mild transient headache following a BOTOX® treatment. In general side effects are rare.
