Dermal Fillers
There are many options available for dermal fillers today. In general, most patients can expect six months to twelve months of correction depending on the particular product selected. Dermal fillers have been used to treat nasolabial folds, marionette lines, tear troughs, and glabellar frown lines, in addition to lip enhancement and cheek augmentation. Other clinical uses include correction of the jowls and nasal deformities.
Our most commonly used non-permanent dermal filler contains, Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring substance found in our bodies. Hyaluronic Acid potently binds to water and, when injected into the skin, volumizes, softens, and hydrates the skin. Pre-testing is not required for this procedure and results are instant.
Another option, providing a more permanent result would be to inject a dermal filler, called Artesense. This product has been approved in Canada since 1998 and can last up to five years. It was formerly known as Artecoll and has since been improved in its delivery system. Artesense is the only permanent injectable implant used for the long-lasting correction of wrinkles and other skin depressions. Pre-testing is required with this product and multiple sittings are recommended for optimum results.
